First room, south wall

  1. A person at the center of this loosely painted horizontal landscape rides a dark horse across a field as a man to the left works the field behind a horse-drawn plow. The field is carpeted with muted and gold-shaded green, and a grove of trees in the right third of the composition are painted in fern, olive, and dark green. A patch of darker green near us and to left of center is dotted with red and yellow to suggest flowers. The men and horses are small in relation to the composition. The people have brown skin and are painted with a few strokes in dark gray and muted green for the man behind the plow to the left and pale yellow and white and a red cap for the person on horseback. A band of houses with tan or light yellow walls and gray or terracotta red roofs line the far side of the field to the left, and an arched bridge crosses what appears to be a shallow, grassy ravine near the center. The horizon comes about a third of the way up this composition and a few smoke-gray clouds line the upper edge of the otherwise milk-white sky. The artist signed the lower left corner, “COROT.”

  2. The image features two men in military uniform engaging closely with each other. Both are shown from head to toe. The man on the left stands with his left leg forward, holding a rifle, and has his right arm around the shoulder of the other man. The man on the right has his right leg slightly bent, supporting his weight, and is holding a sword in his left hand. Each man has distinctive facial features. Both wear tall, elaborate military hats and detailed uniforms. The man on the left displays a strap over his shoulder, while the man on the right has intricate decorations on his jacket and trousers. In the background, there are a few more soldiers and part of a building to the left. The setting is monochromatic.

  3. View of a village surrounded by hills, fields, and trees, shown from a vantage point above the scene. Subtly rolling hills recede into a bluish gray-ish sky punctuated by white clouds. Thick brushstrokes built up atop each other are visible throughout.

Second room, south wall

  1. This image shows an elevated view of a grassy landscape with sparse trees and vegetation at the horizon. The linear brushstrokes create texture and movement in the grass and sky. The color palette is monochromatic with sepia tones. In the foreground, a figure is on a horse amidst tall grasses, while in the distance, another figure stands on the left and a cluster of trees is on the right. The sky has wisps of clouds.
