Copyright and DMCA Policy

Dated 17 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-17

Ochre Editions is a service operated by Valor Security. The registered company is valor registered name, valor registered address. We respect copyright, and we respond to notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

The catalogue

Every work in our catalogue comes from a museum's open-access programme: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and the Smithsonian Institution.

  • We include a work only when the museum itself marks it CC0 or public domain, on the object and on the image we use. With no such mark, the work stays out.
  • Museum collections also hold works still under copyright. Those are never part of our catalogue.
  • If a museum withdraws a work's open-access status, we hide the work at once and stop selling it.
  • Each work is credited "Courtesy of" its museum. The Open-Access Credits list each museum's programme and terms.

Public-domain status can differ outside the United States. If you download a work from abroad, check your local law.

Report this work

Every artwork page has a Report this work link. Use it if you believe a work is still under copyright, if you hold rights in it, or if it is culturally sensitive or shows something that should not be offered. Give your reason, the details, and an email address for our reply. We acknowledge every report by email. We may hide a work while we look into it, and a work we hide is never added back automatically.

Your uploads

You can upload:

  • your own photos to print, which stay private (see Printing Your Own Photo);
  • photos of your wall for planning a gallery wall, which stay private;
  • review photos, which appear publicly after moderation;
  • photos for a return, which stay private.

Upload only images you have the right to use. Before we print your own photo, you confirm that you own it or have permission to print it, including from anyone identifiable in it, and we keep a record of that confirmation.

Sending a copyright notice

If you believe content on Ochre Editions infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent with:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. the copyrighted work you believe is infringed;
  3. the material you believe infringes it, with enough detail for us to find it, such as its web address;
  4. your name, address, telephone number and email address;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  6. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner.

Our designated agent

  • Email: dmca email
  • Post: DMCA Agent, valor registered name, valor registered address
  • The agent is registered with the US Copyright Office under valor registered name, with Ochre Editions as an alternate name. Registration number: dmca agent registration.

When we receive a valid notice, we remove or disable the material promptly and tell the person who posted it.

Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to use it, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent with:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal;
  3. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the material was removed by mistake or misidentification;
  4. your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

We forward the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. If they don't tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action, we restore the material within 10 to 14 business days of receiving the counter-notice.

False claims

Under US law, anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation in a notice or counter-notice may be liable for damages.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others' copyright, in appropriate circumstances.
