How our prints are made
Every print is made to order once you check out. Nothing sits in a warehouse.
The paper
Giclée reproductions are printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308 gsm paper made from cotton. It has a soft, matte surface with no sheen, close to the feel of a museum's own reproduction prints. The work is printed whole, with a white margin around it that is slightly deeper at the bottom.
Sizes, and why some are missing
A museum's file has a fixed number of pixels. Printed too large, it turns soft. We only offer a size when the file gives at least 150 pixels to the inch at that size, and we tell you when a size is good but not the sharpest. The size picker on each work shows every size, and greys out the ones the file can't support.
Framed
Framed reproductions arrive ready to hang, in a solid wood frame in black, white or natural oak, glazed with acrylic, which is lighter and safer to post than glass. Choose a mount in snow white or off-white, or none at all.
Canvas
Canvas reproductions are printed on a cotton-poly canvas and stretched over a 38 mm pine frame. The whole work is printed on the front, centred; where its proportions differ from the canvas, the strip it doesn't cover takes the edge colour you choose: mirrored, white or black.
Print-ready files
If you'd rather print it yourself, we prepare the museum's master for a standard size at 300 pixels to the inch with an sRGB profile. The museum's own file is always free to download as it is.
