Questions we're asked

Are these real paintings?

No. Everything we sell is a reproduction: a print made from the museum's photograph of the work. The originals stay in their museums.

Can I really download the files for free?

Yes. Every work has a link to the museum's full-resolution image. The museums have released these images into the public domain, so you may use them for anything, including commercial work, without asking anyone.

Why can't I order a larger size?

A museum's file has a fixed number of pixels. We only offer sizes where the print will be sharp, which means at least 150 pixels to the inch. Some older photographs are small, so their largest print is small too.

Do you colour-correct the images?

No. We print the museum's own file as the museum published it. Colours on screen vary from device to device, so a print can look slightly different from what you see here.

What is a limited edition?

Each week we choose one work and print a numbered run of one hundred reproductions of it at a set size. Each comes with a certificate stating its number, the reproduction method and the source of the image. Numbers are given in the order payments complete. When the hundred are sold, that edition is closed for good.

Can I use an assistant or an agent to shop?

Yes. You can connect an AI assistant to your account and give it a spending limit; anything over the limit comes to you for approval first. See using an agent.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not yet.
