About this work

A work made of ink and color on silk.

Description from the Art Institute of Chicago.

An unrecorded Korea artist painted this in the Joseon dynasty (1392–1910), 19th century. It is now at the Art Institute of Chicago.

How it was made

Ink and colour on silk
Silk was sized with glue and alum so it would hold a crisp brushline, and mineral colours were built up in thin layers. The sheen of the weave still shows through.
