The 20th century

Vibrant yellow, red, blue, and green painting of landscape with trees and mountains.
Mountain Landscape with Fir Trees, by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, 1918/19
Artist: Marion H. Beckett, Sitter: Theresa Helburn, Current owner: National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution
The image is a painting of a woman's nude upper body extending from her head down to her hips, depicted in a standing position with her head slightly tilted to one side. Her facial features are distinct with a strong brow, prominent nose, and full lips, and her long dark hair cascades down to her shoulders. The background features abstract brushstrokes in dark blues and browns, blending into the lighter brown tone of the canvas, enhancing the figure's prominence in the composition. The woman appears naturalistic, with no jewelry or other objects visible in the painting.
This is a drawing of two ornate elephants. The image depicts two stylized elephants, each adorned with decorative elements. Both elephants are shown carrying a structure on their backs, resembling a small tower or box with a red domed top. The left elephant is turned to the side, its trunk raised. The right elephant faces forward. Each structure on their backs is detailed with intricate designs, including a diamond shape on the side. The overall composition suggests a ceremonial or regal theme. The subtle use of colors like red and gold enhances the ornate appearance. The coloring and shading indicate an attention to detail typical of deliberately crafted illustrations.
The sculpture depicts a young boy dressed in a bright red coat, blue shirt, and blue pants, with black shoes. He is wearing a black hat with a red rim and has curly hair. The boy is balanced on one foot atop a red ball, with one leg lifted behind him and one hand held high above his head. The sculpture is made of painted, cast metal with intricate designs and textures. The boy stands on an ornately decorated dark pedestal.
The image shows a wooden chair with a tall back featuring three wide horizontal slats. The chair has an upholstered seat, likely grey or muted in color. The color palette consists of natural wood tones and a neutral seat color. The chair is facing slightly to the left with the seat slightly tilted.
This is a painting of a decorative box with pastoral scenes. The box has an oval lid and rectangular base adorned with intricate pastoral scenes in earthy tones. The scenes depict landscapes with trees, hills, and figures engaged in various activities against a warm backdrop. The lid has a similar scene, creating a cohesive decorative theme. The style resembles 19th-century European art focusing on pastoral genre scenes and decorative arts. The artwork delicately balances detail and composition, evoking calm and nostalgia.
