# Mount Fuji Rising beyond Miho Beach, in Ukiyo-e

Utagawa Hiroshige designed this in about 1838/42, aged about 36. It is now at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Our note:

> Mount Fuji rises beyond the pine-covered beach of Miho, one of Japan’s most celebrated views, printed almost entirely in shades of blue in a style known as aizuri-e. The print is an uchiwa-e, designed to be cut out and mounted on a rigid round fan, so relatively few survive in good condition.
