## The artist

[Tsukioka Yoshitoshi](https://www.ochreeditions.com/artists/tsukioka-yoshitoshi), Japanese, 1839–1892

Yoshitoshi trained under Utagawa Kuniyoshi and became one of the last great designers of ukiyo-e, working through Japan’s rapid modernisation after 1868.
