# October in the Marshes, in Hudson River School

John Frederick Kensett painted this in 1872, aged 56. It is now at The Met in New York.

Our note:

> Autumn marsh grasses glow in muted golds and browns beneath a wide sky, in one of the paintings John Frederick Kensett made in 1872, the last year of his life, near his summer home on the Connecticut shore. After his death his brother gave a large group of these late canvases to the newly founded Metropolitan Museum.
