It is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.","A woman with copper-red hair sits partly wrapped in a black cloth, one arm across her chest and a strand of amber beads at her neck, her head turned to look away to the right.","Shown from the knees up, a woman sits partially covered by a black cloth as she holds one forearm across her bare breasts in this vertical painting. The woman has pale, yellow-tinged skin and long, copper-red hair and bangs. Her body faces us, but she turns her head to look off to our right with large blue, wide-set eyes. Her cheeks are flushed, and her full, dark pink lips are closed. A strand of gradually larger amber-yellow beads hangs around her neck, and she wears a gold-colored bracelet on the arm braced across her chest, her left arm, to our right. Glimpses of pale pink nipples are visible. The voluminous black cloth drapes down over one shoulder and across her hips. She wears a ring on the other hand, which emerges from the cloth to rest on that knee. Piles of garnet red, peridot green, and forest green are piled up to chest height behind her, and the background is nickel gray around her body and darkens to black around the top and side edges. The scene is loosely painted, especially in the fabric and background. The artist signed the canvas in the lower left corner, “Geo. Bellows E.S.B.”",{"_295":1148,"_297":1149,"_299":1150},"https://img.ochreeditions.com/m/1526.jpg?dl=1","/art/nude-with-red-hair-nga-46559","/galleries/style/early-modernism/nude-with-red-hair-nga-46559",{"_291":292,"_293":294},{"_224":1143,"_125":1144,"_285":1145},{"_276":1140,"_278":1141,"_280":1142,"_281":1125},100.0431884765625,125.9,85.0431884765625,{"_287":224,"_123":1146,"_154":1147,"_140":93},{"_287":125,"_123":288,"_154":289,"_140":290},{"_287":285,"_123":547,"_154":548,"_140":549},"artist/george-bellows","More by George Bellows","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1526/480.jpg","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1526/960.jpg","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1526/1920.jpg",{"_314":1164,"_316":1165},{"_314":1162,"_316":1163},{"_314":1160,"_316":1161},{"_314":1158,"_316":1159},{"_314":1156,"_316":1157},"#592620",0.0497,"#755d33",0.0603,"#c6a75e",0.0708,"#353227",0.1999,"#1b1a18",0.6193,"George Bellows","george-bellows","American, 1882–1925",1882,"Bellows left Ohio State University to study in New York with Robert Henri and became the most celebrated of the younger realists around him.",{"_1172":-5,"_1173":1174,"_1175":1176,"_1177":8,"_1178":1179,"_1180":8},"user","csrf","1d234956058f4c76ee0fa200c5730b475e320c75","cartCount",0,"dropLive","legal",[1181,1182,1183,1184,1185,1186,1187,1188,1189,1190,1191,1192],"uploadsEnabled",{"_221":1215,"_20":1216},{"_221":1213,"_20":1214},{"_221":1211,"_20":1212},{"_221":1209,"_20":1210},{"_221":1207,"_20":1208},{"_221":1205,"_20":1206},{"_221":1203,"_20":1204},{"_221":1201,"_20":1202},{"_221":1199,"_20":1200},{"_221":1197,"_20":1198},{"_221":1195,"_20":1196},{"_221":1193,"_20":1194},"credits","Open-Access Credits","accessibility","Accessibility Statement","vulnerability-disclosure","Vulnerability Disclosure Policy","own-photo","Printing Your Own Photo","copyright","Copyright and DMCA Policy","agents","Agent & API Terms","acceptable-use","Acceptable Use Policy","cookies","Cookie Policy","privacy","Privacy Policy","limited-editions","Limited Editions and Certificates","sale","Terms of Sale","terms","Terms of Use"]
