# Eaton's Neck, Long Island, in The Hudson River School

John Frederick Kensett painted this in 1872, aged 56. It is now at The Met in New York.

Our note:

> A curving strip of sandy beach meets a broad expanse of calm water beneath a vast, pale sky. Kensett painted this spare, almost empty composition in 1872, the last summer of his life, which he spent on the Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound.
