# Self-Portrait Dedicated to Carrière, in Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin painted this in 1888 or 1889, aged about 40. It is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Our note:

> Gauguin portrays himself half-turned, glancing at us sideways with green eyes and one cocked blue eyebrow, his face modelled in bold patches of lime, plum, yellow and blue against a vivid green wall and a window opening onto vegetation.
