## The artist

[Edward Mitchell Bannister](https://www.ochreeditions.com/artists/edward-mitchell-bannister), born St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada 1828-died Providence, RI 1901

Bannister grew up in St Andrews, New Brunswick, moved to Boston and worked as a barber while training as a painter. Around 1870 he settled in Providence, Rhode Island, where his pastoral landscapes, influenced by the French Barbizon painters, found admirers.
