# Firs in the Defile, in Allart van Everdingen

Allart van Everdingen made this (probably c. 1645/1656), aged about 24. It is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Our note:

> A narrow mountain pass opens before us, choked with rocks and dark firs, and a building stands silhouetted on the heights in the distance.
