## About this work

Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart made this. It is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

### What you’re looking at

The image features a collection of ceramics, including two bowls, a plate, a mug, and a lidded cup. The color palette is sepia-toned, with shades of brown. The plate has an intricate illustration of a rooster and floral patterns. Two bowls with different designs are above the plate. A mug with floral and bird illustrations sits on the left, and a lidded cup with fish and aquatic plants is on the right.

_Description from the National Gallery of Art._

### How it was made

- **Etching.** The artist draws with a needle through a waxy coating on a copper plate, and acid bites the exposed lines. The plate is then inked, wiped and printed under pressure, so the line keeps the freedom of drawing.
